The PDA profile: from neuroscience to classroom strategies with a dash of lived experience

The PDA (pathological demand avoidance) behavioural profile within the Autism Spectrum was officially acknowledged in the 2018 National Guideline for the Assessment and Diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder in Australia and is underpinned by an extreme level of anxiety. What does this mean for us in education? This session will help you and your school answer that question, understand this new profile within the latest neuroscience research, provide practical strategies on how to support and collaborate with students and their families who are struggling with PDA and how these approaches support all students from a whole school, strengths based and realistic perspective.
