What to look for in a secondary school/area
  • We are starting a round of secondary school visits in a few days time and would like suggestions about what to look for and what to ask. (Bearing in mind also that we are looking at schools in 3 different LEAs) We have a non-SEN child due to transfer in 2009 ie first, which complicates matters.

We're also considering moving to somewhere with hills and/or sea, preferably both. Any tips on where is going to be good for PDA (and perhaps more importantly, where really isn't) Obviously things are going to be dependent on personal experience.

So far we've been looking at places round the Peak District (Belper, Leek, Ashbourne, Sheffield (though the latter is ruled out now on the grounds of size)) and we're off to Llandudno next.

Wow that was a long time ago now and lots of unexpected things happened. Our son with PDA is about to sit GCSEs and leave his mainstream secondary, and we are in the middle of the chaos that is transition from statement to EHC... and battling for an independent specialist 6th form (which is the nearest provision as well as the most suitable in other ways)
