Consultation on outsourcing children’s social care functions
The Department for Education has recently published a consultation on enabling local authorities to delegate virtually all children’s social care functions to third party providers. This includes child protection functions.

This is a significant extension to local authority powers to outsource children’s services and Children England is keen to reflect the views of their membership. In particular, they would like to know:

    · Do you agree with this proposal and why?
    · What impact could this have on your organisation?
    · What impact could this have on the children, young people and families that you work with?
Please send any comments to Nick Davies by Friday 16th May 2014. The deadline for the consultation is Friday 30th May 2014.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss this consultation or Children England’s report further then please email Nick Davies or call 020 7833 3319 or

This sounds like something that could impact families a great deal.
Please could you expand in more detail:-
    1. What is meant by Childrens Social Care Functions
    2. When you say, this includes Child Protection functions, do you mean that social care will no longer be responsible for dealing with Child Protection, the meetings, the paperwork etc?

Thank you for alerting us to this consultation, I would like to know more about it and how it may impact on families.
