Live training

Our live training courses are delivered by facilitators with valuable lived experience of PDA. They may be PDAers themselves, parents, carers, partners, family members or professionals working with PDA people. For any questions about the content of our training, please contact us.

Our CPD accredited courses are marked with the ‘CPD certified’ logo. Legislation and diagnostic approaches are relevant to England unless stated otherwise. Education programs are also available covering the Welsh education system on request.

Working with & supporting PDA children (Healthcare)

September 30th 9.30am - 1.30pm

This course is suitable for healthcare practitioners, therapists and counsellors who work with and support PDA young people. 

The session aims to highlight the importance of correct identification and, offers awareness of how the PDA profile may appear within an assessment environment, identifying behaviours that may be seen and sharing approaches to build effective relationships.

    What is PDA?

    2nd October 10am - 12.30pm

    This session is ideal for parents, carers, and professionals who want to learn more about the PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance) profile of autism.

    It offers a helpful introduction to PDA, including an overview of what it is, what we mean by “demands” and how they can affect individuals with PDA. The session will explore the nature of demand avoidance, suggest practical approaches that may be helpful, and signpost further resources for those who would like to explore the topic in more depth.

      15th October 3.30pm - 5.15pm

      This CPD accredited course will help education, health & social care professionals feel more confident working with PDA children (whether formally diagnosed, self-identified or exploring the profile).

        This Saturday course will help parents & carers feel more confident supporting PDA children up to the age of 16 (whether formally diagnosed, self-identified or exploring the profile).

        Over 2 sessions we will discuss: ‘What is PDA?’, consider what demands are and their effects, then explore how to help using a variety of different approaches. We’ll also take a look at siblings, diagnosis and education.

                  Q&A live events

                  The PDA Society is delighted to be able to offer a series of live Q&As on different topics to support PDA people and their families.

                  Our online sessions invite guest speakers to answer questions about PDA and specific topics live via Zoom. These Q&As will also be recorded and made available for a small fee through our website.

                  Questions can be submitted at the time of booking and/or via the Zoom chat function on the night. It won’t be possible to answer specific questions about personal situations within these Q&A sessions. If you require support please contact our support service.

                  Q&A Live – Understanding sensory differences

                  9th October 8pm - 9pm

                  This live Q&A session focuses on sensory differences and sensory processing challenges, experienced by PDAers. We will explore how sensory experiences can influence regulation, behaviour, and everyday interactions and how to adapt environments and approaches to better support PDAers at home, in school, or in the community.

                    Q&A Live – Eating challenges and PDA

                    16th October 8pm - 9pm

                    Join us for a live Q&A session exploring the complex relationship between eating challenges, and PDA. Whether you're a parent, carer, educator, or professional this session will provide insight into how demand avoidance, sensory sensitivities, anxiety, and autonomy needs can all contribute to eating difficulties in PDAers – and offer practical guidance on how to respond supportively.

                      Our guest speakers for this event will be:

                      Asher Jenner
                      Asher works to raise awareness of the link between PDA and eating difficulties. She’s training as an inclusive dance teacher and supports PDA understanding and awareness through advocacy, training, and co-authoring a self-help book for autistic teens.

                      And

                      James Harrison
                      James has over 18 years of experience supporting autistic people, including PDAers. He provides advice and guidance around managing eating disorders and demand avoidance. He helps families develop coping strategies, and supports people in feeling safe to be their authentic selves.

                      Q&A Live – Life and PDA, A male parent/carer perspective

                      18th November 8pm - 9pm

                      Join us for an open and supportive Q&A session focused on life as a male-identifying parent or carer of a child with PDA. This session is open to all, but is designed to create a safe space where men can share experiences, ask questions, and explore practical strategies for navigating everyday challenges.

                        Our guest speaker for this event will be:

                        Tigger Pritchard 

                        Awesomely Neurodivergent, Tigger is an Autistsm and PDA advocate, consultant, and trainer based in the Southwest of England.

                        Tigger brings over thirty-six years of combined professional and personal experience working alongside, learning from, and advocating for neurodivergent individuals. Over the years, Tigger has taken on many roles – including support worker, advocate, teacher, facilitator, trainer, manager, lecturer, and friend.

                        Alongside this wealth of professional insight, Tigger also draws on a lifetime of lived Autistic experience, which continues to shape and deepen his understanding.
