Organisation directory

We know it can be hard to find support that works for demand avoidant people. This page is designed to help with that.

We’ve created a directory to help you find services that are supportive of neurodivergent people, especially those who welcome and understand PDAers (people with a Pathological Demand Avoidance profile).

This directory will help you to find direct support. If you are looking for PDA training, please visit our training page to see the courses on offer.

While this directory is designed to be helpful, it’s important to note that PDA Society doesn’t endorse or recommend any specific services or providers. The organisations and individuals listed have self-declared their willingness to support PDAers and have shared how they align with the standards outlined in our Finding safe and appropriate support guidance.

If you are searching for diagnostic centres, please remember that each centre uses their own terminology for describing a PDA profile: some may use “Autism with a PDA profile” whilst others may use different terminology or reference the demand avoidance profile in the diagnostic report. You may wish to contact each centre in advance to check which terminology they use and to ensure you’re happy with this before proceeding. It’s also important to note that sometimes another reason for the demand avoidance that your child is presenting with, other than a PDA profile, may be identified during the assessment.

Before working with any services on the directory it is helpful to:

  • Do your research: As a small organisation, we can’t quality-assure the providers listed. We strongly encourage you to research providers to ensure they meet your needs. For example, requesting to see a safeguarding policy. Our guidance on finding safe and appropriate support goes into more detail about how to tell if a provider is safe to work with.
  • Remember these are self-declared standards: Providers in the directory have stated that they follow our guidance, but we cannot guarantee this as no checks have taken place.
  • Decide what you are comfortable with: It’s up to you to check you’re happy with the process, costs, and potential outcomes before engaging with any service.
  • Understand our role: We update the directory regularly and may remove providers if safety concerns are raised. This doesn’t mean we’re judging the quality of a service – it simply reflects our commitment to safety and the limits of our capacity to investigate. Safeguarding concerns will always be referred to the appropriate authorities.

Explore the directory

The directory below will list services that want to work with PDAers. Use the filter to define which area you wish to find a service in, you may select multiple areas. The results will automatically filter below. Use the reset button to clear the search criteria.

To see more information about the service… you can click on the down arrow on their tile.

By working together, we hope to create a network of services that make life a little easier.

I'm a Clinical Psychologist (Doctorate from University of Liverpool, 2014) with professional experience working with autistic individuals across different settings. Personally, I'm a parent to two autistic children, one with PDA, giving me unique insight that combines professional expertise with lived experience of neurodivergent family life.
I have specialised experience with PDA both professionally and personally. In my clinical practice, I've developed approaches that honour autonomy while providing support, focusing on psychological safety and low-demand strategies. As a parent to a child with PDA, I navigate these challenges daily, developing practical strategies that work in real-world settings.
I maintain current knowledge through specialised professional development training in neurodevelopmental conditions and trauma-informed approaches; engagement with current research and academic publications; active participation in professional networks; community involvement with PDA and autism groups to learn directly from lived experience.

Dr Harris has worked in NHS and private assessment teams for children and adults. Dr Harris is also an expert witness/assessor in the family and criminal courts, with a specialism in the assessment of neurodivergent people. Alongside diagnostic assessments, Dr Harris provides therapy and psychological consultation to adults, adolescents, and parents. Dr Harris works closely with qualified and experienced colleagues so that a multidisplinary team can be assembled for each client that reflects their individual needs. Dr Harris frequently is asked to provide 2nd opinion assessments and offers clinical supervision to autism assessment service leads and directors.
Whilst autism assessments comply with NICE guidelines and have consistent elements, assessments are always adapted to meet the individual needs of the client. The central aim during the assessment is that the person's experience of life is heard and understood. Dr Harris has worked for many years with PDAers and people who struggle with demands. He has listened to their concerns and included these in the formulations and outcomes from assessments. This has often led to people feeling valued and validated when moving forwards in their lives after assessments.
All clinicians at DH Psychology Ltd are supported to participate in continued professional development; this involves team discussions about recent assessments, reviews of relevant books, and updates on clinical research.

I am autistic myself and have extensive lived and professional experience in autism. I have worked in education, social work, and professional development, supporting autistic individuals and their families. I provide training for allied health professionals and educators, supervise professionals in the field, and have collaborated with organizations such as the PDA Society, Reframing Autism, and Yellow Ladybugs. My work is grounded in a neuroaffirming, trauma-informed approach that prioritizes autonomy and self-advocacy. I am also a parent of autistic children ranging from 10 years to 27 years. I am a qualified educator and have taught autistic children.
I have been parenting PDAers for 27 years and supporting PDA individuals and families professionally for over a decade. I have a special interest in Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) and have delivered training, supervision, and consultancy to professionals working with PDA individuals. I have created programs, masterclasses, and resources specifically designed for PDAers, their families, and professionals, focusing on strategies that honor autonomy, reduce anxiety, and build trusting relationships. I have been cited in research, presented internationally, and collaborated with colleagues in the field. I am also a PDAer myself.
I stay updated through ongoing study, professional collaboration, and engagement with the PDA and neurodivergent communities. I am currently studying a Master’s in Counselling and Psychotherapy and a Graduate Diploma in Psychology. I have a special interest in childhood trauma and hold several certifications related to this. I engage with the latest research, work directly with PDA individuals and families, and collaborate with other neurodivergent professionals. While our core education services are not regulated, we do engage professionals in roles that are subject to regulatory oversight. Specifically: Teaching staff may hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Safeguarding and child protection are a priority, and all staff working directly with children undergo at least Level 1 Safeguarding training, enhanced DBS checks and adhere to Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidelines. We collaborate with regulated professionals, including clinical psychologists, speech and language therapists (SLTs), and other specialists, who are registered with their respective governing bodies (e.g., HCPC, Social Work England). While we do not directly provide regulated services ourselves, we ensure that any professional engaged in a regulated role meets the required legal and professional standards.

Our team has extensive experience supporting autistic students in Alternative Provision (AP) and EOTAS settings. We work closely with clinical psychologists, ASD assessors, and speech and language therapists to ensure tailored support. Our provision is child-led, adapting to individual needs, including sensory, communication, and learning differences. We also provide SEND support and training to our tutors, ensuring a well-informed approach to autism-friendly education.
Our team has significant experience working with students who have Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) or struggle with demands. We take a child-led, flexible approach, recognising that students with PDA often experience high anxiety around perceived demands, which can lead to avoidance or distress. To support them, we prioritise autonomy and control, offering choices and presenting tasks in a way that feels non-demanding. We also use a relationship-based approach to build trust and create a safe environment, working closely with clinical psychologists and other specialists to develop personalised strategies. Our tutors are trained in PDA-specific strategies, ensuring we provide tailored support to meet each student’s individual needs.
We keep our knowledge up to date by participating in regular CPD training, attending relevant seminars, and engaging with the latest research in education and SEND. Additionally, we collaborate with specialist professionals and maintain active connections with industry networks to stay informed on best practices.

At The Wildheart Foundation, we use proven methodologies to ensure that students are able to access learning in a way that works for them. Our mission is to build a new kind of tutoring business, where the child is at the centre of everything we do. We want to create a kinder, more inclusive educational system, where every child thrives because the curriculum is designed around them and the way that they learn best. We recognise that many children face difficulties in accessing the current education system due to factors such as neurodiversity, trauma, or anxiety. Through our tutoring model, we offer new ways to bring out the best in children, developing methodologies for inclusive school provision. The Wildheart Foundation, focuses specifically on ways to support children struggling with school, having developed ways to empower every child to ignite their love of learning in a harmonious and supportive environment.

I have worked with neurodivergent children for over twenty five years, in both teaching and advisory roles. I have taught in both mainstream and specialist settings and been an accredited trainer for the Autism Education Trust and for the National Autistic Society. I am a highly experienced Specialist Advisory Teacher, having previously worked across a large county, developing and delivering Autism and PDA specific training for schools and other Local Authority teams. My particular areas of professional interest are Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), situational mutism, neurodivergent girls and anxiety.
Throughout my teaching career there have always been autistic children who needed a particularly creative, collaborative approach to do well. Whilst demand avoidance was not widely known about twenty five years ago, those children shared many differences, strengths and personal qualities with the PDAers that I work with today. PDA ultimately became a key professional interest for me, and was the research focus for my Masters degree. Through the course of twelve years as a Specialist Advisory Teacher for a Local Authority, I met many more PDAers, from pre-schoolers to those moving into adulthood. Time spent with children, their families and their teachers has resulted in a comprehensive understanding of the changing challenges through each phase of education. I now work independently and specialise in teaching, coaching and mentoring PDAers and their families on a daily basis. Alongside this, I continue to carry out consultancy with educational settings.
I actively read new research, publications and relevant social media. I join professional development courses, and I work collaboratively with other like-minded colleagues including Educational Psychologists, Occupational Therapists etc. Above all, I continue to learn from every child I work with, through listening to what they have to say about their experiences and carrying this forward in my practice.

hello@mindjam.org.uk
At MindJam our primary focus is to support young people’s emotional well-being. We believe that the key to doing so is by engaging them in a world in which they feel safe and comfortable, namely video games. We support young people between the ages 6 – 25. Our mentors’ shared passion for gaming provides a platform to build a trusting, long-lasting relationship from which we can support their individual needs, whether emotional or SEN. All mentors are experienced and trained in supporting neurodivergent individuals including autistic young people and other additional needs such as PDA, ADHD, anxiety, stress and trauma. Support can take many different forms; it can be playing Fortnite, Minecraft or Rocket League. Or through developing a digital skill such as game design, 3D design, digital art, animation, music editing or video editing. However, our focus for all mentees is the same – to support their emotional wellbeing. These activities are great for relieving stress, anxiety and providing emotional regulation and have been shown to greatly benefit mental health and cognitive development. We also empower young people to make informed decisions about their online safety, fostering greater awareness and resilience in navigating the digital world. At MindJam we are well known for developing our innovative mentoring sessions – a new, groundbreaking approach to supporting young people that truly connects and empowers them. What some people don’t know is that we offer two types of support – Mentoring and Counselling. Each has a unique focus. Both are client-led and about making you feel heard, understood, and supported.

I am a highly experienced Qualified Teacher with a Masters Degree in Autism (Children). I have taught in both mainstream and specialist settings. I spent over twelve years as a Specialist Advisory Teacher (Speech, Language, Communication and Autism), for a large Local Authority. I have specialised in teaching and supporting neurodivergent children for over twenty five years and work with children, schools and families every day.
I first began teaching autistic children over twenty five years ago. With hindsight, some of those were PDA children. However, at that time, the profile just wasn’t widely known about. I later worked for many years as an Advisory Teacher (Autism) for a large Local Authority. I spent a lot of time working strategically with schools, to support a change in approach, developing and delivering PDA specific training, observing in classrooms, talking to children and families and giving advice. I now work independently and work on a daily basis with PDA children and their families, whilst still carrying out consultancy with educational settings. I also have personal experience of low demand parenting.
I actively read new research and publications as well as following social media groups and blogs, particularly those created by people with lived experience. I am committed to a neuro-affirming, non ableist approach and the way in which I work and the advice which I give, is absolutely grounded in enabling children to be true to themselves.

GROVE is a genuinely neuro-affirming, online community for Autistic young people age 8-17 (we intend to expand to support otherwise neurodivergent young people in time). We are proudly Autistic ADHD led and Autistic staffed. We are also all specialists with deep knowledge of Autistic experience, current theory and practice and a firm rejection of the medical model framing of autism. We support young people by enabling opportunities to develop self-understanding, connect with other Autistic people and feel a sense of belonging - all as their authentic selves. SERVICES: ~ Mentoring: Connect with an Autistic Mentor - a safe person to support and guide. ~ Peer Groups: Connect with peers and form part of a happy, authentic community. ~ Interest-based Groups: Connect with peers over a shared interest. ~ ''Autistic Identity'' programmes: Make sense of what it means to be ''Autistic'' in a way that is meaningful to the young person.

The NEC team has extensive experience in supporting students with autism. Our tutors and support staff are trained to understand the unique challenges faced by autistic learners, including communication preferences, sensory sensitivities, and the need for clear, structured guidance. We provide flexible study plans that can be adapted to individual needs, ensuring a comfortable and supportive learning environment. Additionally, our SENCO services offer personalized assistance, helping students with autism build confidence, develop effective study habits, and achieve their educational goals. Our commitment to inclusivity ensures that every learner receives the tools and encouragement they need to succeed.
While direct disclosures of PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance) within NEC students have been minimal, our team is skilled in providing flexible and responsive support that can benefit PDAers and those who struggle with demands. Our tutors and SENCOs often draw from broad experience gained in diverse educational settings, tailoring their approach to reduce pressure, foster autonomy, and create a supportive environment. By focusing on flexibility, clear communication, and building trust, we aim to help students navigate their learning journey in a way that works best for them. You’ve hit
